Irish Trash Can Drink Recipes: 8 Of The Best

Take a Look ↓↓↓

Trash can drinks have their origins firmly rooted in college parties. We all remember grabbing whatever alcohol we could get our hands on and pouring it into the communal alcohol container.

There’s nothing quite like drinking a homemade cocktail from a huge plastic box, and it’s an experience everyone should have once. It is often hard to gauge how much alcohol is in these drinks as they are rarely measured. Spirits, ice, and mixers are all chucked in and mixed around, with the sole intention of getting drunk.

If you don’t want to run the risk of making a disgusting punch, we have selected some of the best recipes for trash can drinks that everyone at your party will love. Plus, you will know the alcohol content if you make them yourself.

All of these recipes are simply made by placing ice in a large container and adding the fruit on top. The alcohol is then poured in and the mixture is topped with the non-alcoholic mixers. We advise mixing well and using a ladle to pour out individual servings.

These drinks can be adapted to make a trash can drink of any size, but just ensure you keep the rough ratios the same for the best effects.

These drinks are designed with fun in mind, but please drink responsibly and only if you are of legal drinking age. Never drive or operate heavy machinery after drinking.

Tips and Tricks

It is important to ensure that your plastic containers are clean and hole-free. This means that there is a reduced risk of infection or illness, as well as ensuring the serving area stays as clean as possible.

Another good way to serve your trash can punch is in one of the glass dispensing kegs often seen in restaurants. The glass looks elegant and will prevent contaminants from entering the trash can drink. It is also very easy for people to serve themselves from these kinds of containers.

Even if you are not measuring out the components carefully, it is a good idea to be aware of the rough ratios of your trash can drink. We recommend a ratio of 4:1 of mixers to alcohol, but you could go as low as 2:1 for people who like the taste of alcohol.

You do not need to add any sugar to your trash can. This is because the high quantity of mixer will provide enough sweetness to make the drink palatable. Juice contains a lot of sugar and is never a bad plan to include in your punch.

We strongly recommend adding fruit to the drink. This improves the taste as well as the aesthetics of the punch.

To make virgin versions of any of these drinks, simply leave out the spirits. If you wish to replace them with something, why not try incorporating soft drinks as a substitute? Lemon-lime soda or seltzer water tend to be good starting points.

It is often a good idea to add the fruits to the spirits a couple of hours before serving to allow the flavors to infuse correctly. Do not add ice until you are ready to serve the drink.

Please consume these drinks responsibly. If there are any leftovers from trash can drinks, we strongly recommend disposing of them. This is because they will likely have been sat out for hours and they are also likely to have been biologically and chemically contaminated. This is not that big of an issue on the first day, but keeping the drinks for a few days will allow the bacteria time to grow and multiply. This could potentially cause sickness or ill health.

Particularly when drinking Irish trash cans, be aware of the caffeine levels that you are consuming. It is easy to drink a lot of these drinks. High caffeine intake can cause serious health issues such as seizures and irregularities in the heartbeat. Consistently excessive caffeine consumption can also lead to hormonal imbalances in the body.
