BAKING PORK STEAKS

Set your oven to 400F and let it preheat while setting up your marinade.

Making the marinade: Add all the ingredients of the marinade in a small mixing bowl and then stir everything to combine it thoroughly.

Marinade your steak: Place your pork steaks in the bowl where your marinade is and make sure to cover both sides evenly so you have smothered pork chops. Once you’re done, you’ll want to let your steaks sit in the marinade for at least 30 minutes but ideally you’ll want them to sit in the marinade for up to 24 hours. You can do this by placing a plastic wrap over the bowl to close it off and stick everything in the fridge.

Once you are done marinating your steaks, take them out of the fridge for at least 15 minutes before you are ready to cook. You want the steaks to come back to room temperature before cooking them. Take the steaks out of the bowl and place them on a baking dish. Make sure to pour all of your remaining marinade over the steaks.

Now you can throw the steaks in the oven and bake them from 20 to 25 minutes or until tender and brown on the outsides. Internal temps on your meat thermometer should ready 145F.

Take the cook pork steak out when done and transfer them to a place and cover them for an additional 5 minutes.

STORING YOUR PORK STEAKS

In the fridge: Keep your pork steaks from getting too much oxygen by storing them in an airtight container like Tupperware or a fridge-safe Ziplock bag. Make sure they are cooled down completely before you throw them in the fridge. The steaks will last anywhere from 3-4 days but will start to spoil after this.

In the freezer: Freezing your steaks is possible as long as you leave them in a freezer-safe Ziplock bag or an airtight container where they will not be exposed to much oxygen. This will keep them more fresh and they should be good for up to a week.

Reheating your steaks: Thaw out your steaks in the fridge the night before you are ready to eat them. Reheat them in your oven but at a lower temperature of 320F for 5-10 minutes or until warm.

The pork steaks might become dry when reheating so you might want to splash a small amount of water on them before heating them in the oven.

FAQS

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MARINATE PORK STEAKS

It is recommended that you only marinate pork or other cuts of meat (steak, chops, tenderloin) for a very short time. If you are short on time you only have to marinate them for 30 minutes but a couple of hours is more appropriate. If you let them marinate up to 24 hours they will have a better chance to absorb the juices but any longer and they will become soft and mushy.

If you aren’t using any acidic ingredients like vinegar or lemon juice then you can marinade your steaks longer because they won’t break down as easily.

SHOULD I LET THE PORK REST?

Yes! Pork must rest in order for the juices to spread evenly again. Cover it with tinfoil and let it sit for five minutes before you serve it.

MY PORK STEAKS ARE NOT TENDER, WHY?

Overcooking your steaks is the number one reasons why they will not be tender. Following the recommended cooking times is your best chance for a tender steak. Of course, the thickness will be a major factor so consider adding or taking off time depending on the thickness of the steak.

The temperature of your specific oven will also be a factor so use a meat thermometer to get an accurate internal temperature on the steaks. Remember as well that while your steaks are resting they will be slowly cooking as well so the internal temp should raise the longer they rest.

HOW LONG TO BAKE PORK STEAKS?

Again, the thickness will ultimately determine how long you let them cook but it should be around 25 – 35 minutes at 365F. Higher temps will require a lower cooking time. Check in on your steaks about 15 minutes before they are done cooking and start taking their temperatures.
